Pour célébrer d’une belle manière le 40ème anniversaire du festival de Woodstock, le Purple Haze Ensemble recherche 3.000 guitaristes afin de battre le record du plus grand nombre de six-cordistes jouant la même chanson ensemble en reprenant "Purple Haze".

Cette tentative prendra place lors du West Fest (festival gratuit)qui aura lieu le 25 octobre au Golden Gate Park de San Francisco. Plusieurs guitaristes appartenant aux formations présentes pour le festival seront de la partie. Ray Manzarek (The Doors), Peter Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane), Denny Laine (The Wings) sont annoncés. Il ne s'agit pas de savoir reprendre "Purple Haze" à la note près, mais de connaître les accords de base. Guitares acoustiques ou électriques sont les bienvenues.

Le précédent record avait été établi l’année dernière à Concord (en Californie) et avait vu 2.052 musiciens reprendre « This Land is Your Land » de Woody Guthrie en présence de Country Joe McDonald. Dommage que ce soit si loin mais quelques gratteux français pourront peut-être s’y rendre et contribuer à l’histoire de leur instrument.
