Ce 31 décembre 2008, Robert Plant fut sacré Commandant de l'ordre de l'empire anglais par la reine Elizabeth II, lors de la traditionnelle soirée des "New Year Honours List".
Le chanteur s'est déclaré "très honoré" de faire partie des 966 élus au titre de Commandant, titre qui lui fut décerné pour ses "services rendus à la musique et au patrimoine culturel Britannique"
En cette fin d'année, le chanteur avait été au centre des plus folles rumeurs concernant une re formation de son mythique groupe, Led Zeppelin, pour une tournée mondiale. Cependant, ce dernier ne semble pas enclin à rejoindre le groupe de façon permanente.
Plant vient d'être également nominé aux Mercury Awards pour sa collaboration avec Alison Krauss intitulée "Raising Sand".
