Chad Smith va commencer avec Chickenfoot une tournée Nord-américaine qui durera jusqu’à fin septembre et aura peu de temps pour se reposer puisqu’il annonce au site américain Billboard.com que les Red Hot Chili Peppers se réuniront en octobre afin de travailler sur leur prochain album.
Cette période sera chargée pour lui puisque le premier album d’un autre de ses projets, les Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats, sortira le 15 septembre. Il s’agit d’un groupe instrumental qu’il forme avec le guitariste Jeff Kolman, le claviériste Ed Roth et le bassiste Kevin Chown depuis 2008. On peut en avoir un avant goût ICI, inutile de dire que le son est assez funky et que la batterie y prend une grande place. Il espère que le groupe sortira un second album début 2010, ainsi qu’un album live. Il sera donc bien occupé pour la fin de l’année puisqu’il partira en tournée au Japon en octobre pour défendre ce « Meet the Meatbats ».
« On a trois albums en réserve et aucun n’est encore sorti » ajoute t-il avant de préciser « Mais on n’attendra pas, ce n’est pas comme si on sortait des singles et qu’on cherchait à établir une stratégie. C’est des trucs qu’on sort comme ça, quand on sent que c’est bien. ». Quant à ses camarades de Chickenfoot, ils l’ont assuré qu’ils continueraient à travailler ensemble en s’arrangeant avec son emploi du temps chargé.
