Billy Corgan rend hommage en chanson à Sky Saxon

Billy Corgan est le dernier membre historique du groupe depuis le départ du batteur Jimmy Chamberlain en début d’année, mais cela ne l’empêche pas de continuer à sortir de nouveaux titres sous le nom des Smashing Pumpkins.

Le frontman, accompagné de son nouveau batteur, Mike Byrne (choisi sur casting et âgé de 19 ans) a dévoilé une nouvelle chanson, « Freak », lors d’un show consacré à la mémoire de Sky Saxon, leader du groupe The Seeds (formé en 1965), décédé le 25 juin. Corgan a déclaré que ce titre contenait « des paroles que je n’aurais jamais écrites si je n’avais pas rencontré Sky ». Il n’y a pas encore d’informations sur un nouvel album, bien que le chanteur/guitariste travaille actuellement sur de nouvelles chansons.

Billy Corgan et Sky Saxon étaient, au delà de leur relation musicale, de très bons amis. Saxon était d'ailleurs apparu dans la vidéo "Superchrist"(un titre recalé de "Zeitgeist") aux côtés de Corgan et de Chamberlain.
